The Zone Paintings

The Zone images were created when I became interested in the transitions that occurred along the margins of a drawing. At those edges, I sometimes allowed  realistic renderings to slip, dissolve, or morph. To play with and stage those transitions, I divided my pages into parallel strips of pencil drawing and acrylic painting. The transitions between warm pencil and raw page colors and the gray, blue-black paint heightened the shape shifting effects.
